Just a couple of years ago the two schools existed separated as rivals: Forest Brook and Smiley.
But after several factors, the two schools were integrated in 2008 onto one campus to make up North Forest High School.
The media was waiting for something negative to report but couldn't find anything.
That's because the students decided to put their rivalries to the side to become one family.
On the night of May 21, 2009 history was made.
The first graduating class of North Forest High held their senior class awards night and I was invited to be the keynote speaker.
I am a 1997 graduate of Forest Brook Senior High School so I was very elated to have the opportunity to provide words of inspiration to the Class of 2009. I spoke to them about the importance of finding purpose in life and having the right motivation for attaining higher education.
I then watched as students received award after award including the Presidential Scholarship Award. Many of them will be attending UT, PVAMU, TSU, UH, Southern and other great universities.
So this blog is dedicated to all those who have talked down on North Forest Independent School District.....greatness is still being produced.
Congrats Class of 2009....you have made history once, now do it for the rest of your lives.
