I thought about how I haven't blogged about my speaking engagements in a while! It has been a busy year so far and I have many more coming up soon. I wanted to share highlights with you from one of my most recent workshops.
On May 2, I was a guest presenter at the 2nd Annual Black Freedom Weekend in Austin, Texas organized by University of Texas professor Kaleema Haidera Al‐Nur. This conference featured four days of unforgettable discussions, films, performances and intensive trainings. I was invited to speak on Media Activism in relation to my work with The Final Call Newspaper and social media such as this blog, as part of the Community Organizing 101 segment.
In my 30 minute talk, I used the story of the dragging death of Brandon McClelland in Paris, Texas to outline step by step how a story can develop quickly and spread from on the grounds work and via online mediums. That story will stay with me forever--it was deep. I got alot of great feedback on my presentation and I was honored by the invite. Below is the slide presentation I used. (I love acronyms) Plus a few more photo.
