"Sex and the City II": A Muslim Convert's Take

I do not watch television shows so you can’t ask me who won American Idol, my thoughts on the season finale of Lost, or who walked away with the crown on Dancing with the Stars. I tend to find out by accident via social media.

For example I had countless friends on Twitter and Facebook excited about getting their tickets to see the premiere of the recent Hollywood release Sex and the City II.

Someone even asked me my opinion on the movie. I laughed because I don’t even know what that series or movie is about but from the looks of the title I could use context clues. So I asked several young Black girls about it and they knew everything there is to know about the series and the movie. They also said they love The Real Housewives of Atlanta. They actually chuckled at me about not being up to date on these popular shows. They said "You're out of touch Brother Jesse."

But when I asked them their favorite Biblical scripture they only grinned with no response. This set the stage for an upcoming post I am going to do about religion and its' seemingly ineffectiveness on the hearts and minds of our young people. We're losing them in our religious houses at a certain age for a reason....and many of them told me why they would rather go see Sex and the City than attend any religious service.

I came across this article on Henrymakow.com titled “A Muslim Convert's Take on US Women & Society”, wherein the writer weighs in on the Sex and the City culture in the U.S. I let some of those Black girls read it and they agreed with it in part.
