Houston, TX – Jesse Muhammad, affectionately known as Brother Jesse, completed a 20-plus city national and international speaking adventure as part of the Community & Resistance Tour.

“It was an amazing experience to meet so many grassroots organizers, independent media professionals, college students, and citizens seeking to build coalitions. The reception has been astronomical!” says Brother Jesse, a Staff Writer for The Final Call, a national Black-owned newspaper published by the Nation of Islam.

The Community and Resistance Tour seeks to communicate about current struggles for justice and liberation along with connecting communities to build relationships between grassroots activists and independent media.

The rigorous schedule for Brother Jesse kicked off with 19 consecutive days of speaking alongside journalist and tour organizer Jordan Flaherty and Victoria Law, an advocate for the plight of incarcerated women.

From early September to mid-October the grassroots trio spoke in cities such as Brooklyn, South Hadley, Chicago, Syracuse, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Amherst, Asheville, Atlanta, Columbus and Pittsburgh. They even crossed the Canadian border to address audiences in Montreal and Toronto.

During his multiple talks Brother Jesse shared his experiences in writing and organizing on the grounds for various news stories including Katrina and The Jena Six. He also stressed the true purpose of education to students while giving “5 P’s of Organizing.”

"When Brother Jesse Muhammad speaks, there is an electricity to the room. He captures the audience's attention with humor and charm, then uses his incredible skills as a speaker to deliver important lessons about media and social justice,” says Jordan Flaherty.

“Drawing from personal experience as an independent journalist, Brother Jesse shared insights from the struggle for honest reporting in the face of corporate media and the like who often silence the truth of what is happening in our communities,” says Ava Hernandez, Director of Training and Learning at Public Allies Milwaukee.

“Jesse Muhammad's talk riveted the audience of students, faculty and community members who packed into Stirn Auditorium at Amherst College,” says Sujani K. Reddy, Five College Assistant Professor of Asian Pacific American Studies.

The on-going Community and Resistance Tour is an exciting movement-building opportunity sponsored by Haymarket Books, PM Press, Left Turn Magazine, and other independent media projects from around the US.

“It’s a blessing to be a part of this tour. We’re not finished yet. We’re getting requests from so many more cities and we plan to keep inspiring the masses to action,” says Brother Jesse.
