Speaking Tour Update: Woodson Leadership Academy's Pearling & Tie Ceremony

These young brothers looking sharp! On December 2, I had the honor of speaking at the Pearls & Ties Ceremony hosted at Woodson K-8 Leadership Academy in Houston. The purpose of this ceremony was to induct these young boys and girls into the Brilliant Scholars Society. Each honoree was presented with a pearl necklace (girls) and a necktie (boys). In my brief talk I touched on why mediocrity is not tailor-made for them. I'm happy I was able to donate the neckties. Congrats to all of the students! Job well done! Thank you to Principal Fullmighter, Co-sponsor Erika Edmond, Co-sponsor Kristy Love, and Ms. Odutayo for inviting me to be apart of the event.

  1. The breakfast group, a non-profit Seattle black men's group has been holding the tie-one-on luncheon for 20 years.
This ceremony is after a tie design competition where the winning design is manfactured and sold at various events with the profits going into the scholarship.
I have been a member for a number of years, am a board member and produce their podcast.
