The Stench of Injustice! Family and supporters launch online petition in Free Howard Morgan Campaign

According to a report in The Final Call, "It was a verdict family, friends and supporters of Howard Morgan did not want to hear, but are determined to fight: Guilty. "

"Mr. Morgan who is Black, was accused of trying to shoot four White police officers in 2005, just minutes from his home and after being pulled over for a traffic stop on the city’s West Side. Mr. Morgan was hospitalized six months and underwent several surgeries for injuries he sustained after the officers shot him 28 times during the wee hours of the morning. During closing arguments, prosecutors painted Mr. Morgan as a reckless man who started the fire fight afraid officers would discover his Firearm Owners Identification card had expired. Defense attorneys argued Mr. Morgan did not fire his weapon at all and that the four young officers with a total of 10 years law enforcement experience, simply overreacted and panicked." I had an opportunity to speak briefly with Rosalind Morgan, the wife of ex-cop Howard Morgan, about her husband's case, his upcoming sentence date and what she needs us a community to do online and offline.

"I have seen a lot in my life, but this is still so mind boggling and overwhelming. We got a chance to fully see how unjust this system is. So much deceit goes on. My children are appalled. My husband is not an animal, he's a human being, yet he's been treated like some kind of animal. We're not going to stop fighting. I cry daily thinking about the stench of injustice in those courts that smells worse than a dead carcass. God made me the help meet for my husband, meaning I am here to help him overcome all obstacles in his life. We're sticking together and we need everyone's support. God is with us and I'm not going to stop fighting," said Mrs. Morgan, who was a guest speaker at the Nation of Islam's Mosque Maryam in Chicago on Sunday, February 12.

According to the online petition page, "The destruction of evidence, withholding of evidence and lack of evidence gathered did not allow Howard Morgan the due process of law afforded him under the U.S. Constitution, 14th Amendment, and the State of Illinois Constitution, Article 1, Section 2; as he was not given a fair trial in 2007 or 2012....Howard Morgan was never tested for gun residue to confirm if he even fired a weapon on the morning in question."

Mrs. Morgan continued, "Blacks still get treated the worse. This is a modern day lynching and we're calling on everyone to sign the petition and pack the courtroom on February 21. This is a cry for help from his wife of 39 years. If they can do this to my husband, they can do this to any man. Let's not standby."
