On Sunday, August 19, people walked the neighborhoods of Queens, New York for the "I Am Present for Peace" march. This was part of an effort to promote peace and love in the face of continued violence in the Black community. The march was spearheaded by Dennis Muhammad (The Peace Keepers), Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, and Erica Ford (LIFE Camp).
Thousands reportedly convened at the corner of Sutphin Boulevard and 111th Avenue and marched to Baisley Housing Projects, an area plagued by gun violence. New York has not been in the news like Chicago, but it definitely has had its problems with shootings this summer as well. Check out a few photos of the march from GlobalGrind.com. And as Dennis Muhammad says, "One hour of doing something is better than 24 hours of doing nothing."
