Carter was arrested for alleged drug possession. Sergeant Waterworth of the Jonesboro police department claims that despite having been searched and handcuffed before being placed inside of the patrol car, Carter somehow, miraculously, strangely managed to shoot himself in the head. Something just not adding up.
Carter’s grieving mother, Theresa Carter, has refused to buy into this story. In a recent edition of The Final Call, she stated, "I’m just heartbroken. I just want to know what really happened. ... My child was never suicidal. He would never kill himself. My son was full of joy, full of life, full of ambition."
Last week, the Jonesboro Police Department released a reenactment video of the alleged suicide with yoga instructors, ahem, I mean officers acting out what they think happened. This recent development is not stopping the family and supporters from keeping the pressure on to find out what really happened to this young brother. A prayer vigil is scheduled for August 20 at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis and the Rev. Jesse Jackson is one of the invited speakers.
